Roderick Purton was a local historian with whom Allison Williams discussed the history of St Anton's Point in 1965. He told her about the curse that caused people to go mad. He was an air raid warden during World War II and used the privileges to steal from people whilst shelter. Under the influence of the concentrated magnetic field which was cracked during an air raid, he was caught in the act of stealing by Mrs Jefferies and killed her in cold blood.
