Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc, also known as Saint Joan, was a French military leader.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Samuel Sands said he had been told that the voices St. Joan heard always came from the side. (PROSE: The Sleep of Reason) The Fifth Doctor speculated that the voices Joan heard were sent by the Daleks. (AUDIO: Renaissance of the Daleks)

The Tenth Doctor claimed to have had a "confidence-building lunch with Joan of Arc, which went too well". They had crepes. (COMIC: Four Doctors)

Joan was one of the individuals Momus pulled out of time, an act she suggested was a trick of the Devil's. Noël Coward told her the Devil had a better sense of humour. (PROSE: The Lonely Computer)

Joan was among the notable women of Earth's history who were invited by Missy to join MADAM. (PROSE: Girl Power!)

The Fifth Doctor noted that Joan's death by burning was a part of the Web of Time. (AUDIO: Cobwebs)

The Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald met and shared an adventure with Joan. During that encounter, the Doctor told Clara that he previously met Joan, but later in the woman's timeline. (AUDIO: The Memory of Winter)

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

When the Free France Army arrived in Britain in preparation for the Normandy landings in 1944, the first thing that they did was hold a memorial service for Joan of Arc. (AUDIO: State of Emergency)

Upon visiting Venus in the far future, Henry Gordon Jago was ordered to entertain the Grand Empress Vulpina. To that end, he told her the following joke: "What's the difference between Joan of Arc and an old, oak table?" The punchline was "One's Maid of Orleans, the other's made of wood." Vulpina did not understand the joke. (AUDIO: Voyage to Venus)

Alternate timelines[[edit] | [edit source]]

In a timeline where River Song caused time to collapse when she refused to kill the Eleventh Doctor, (TV: The Wedding of River Song) Joan hosted the daytime chat series Loose Women with Emily Brontë. (PROSE: Just a Minute...)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

According to The Lords of Destiny background information for the 1985 Roleplaying Game, Joan was saved from being burnt at the stake by a passing Time Lord recognised as the Professor (identified as separate from the Doctor). She is given statistics to be played as one of the companions in the adventure or otherwise, with the explanation of her not being able to go back due to her historical death, travelling with the Professor. As this is a Roleplaying Game and non-narrative information it is not valid by this wiki.
