Jack Watling (13 January 1923-22 May 2001[1]) played Professor Edward Travers in the Doctor Who television stories The Abominable Snowmen and The Web of Fear and the Reeltime Pictures video Downtime.

Personal life[[edit] | [edit source]]

He was the father of Deborah and Giles Watling. Deborah appeared alongside her father in his three DWU stories as the Second Doctor's companion Victoria Waterfield.

Career[[edit] | [edit source]]

He was best remembered for playing Don Henderson on boardroom drama The Plane Makers and its sequel, The Power Game.

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

An archive interview with Jack was featured on the documentary Troughton in Tibet, which was released on the DVD and Blu-ray release of the animated recreation of The Abominable Snowmen.

Since most of The Web of Fear's previously-missing episodes were recovered in 2013, the missing third episode (which saw Travers reunited with the Second Doctor for the first time since The Abominable Snowmen) has been recreated twice to represent it - firstly with telesnaps in 2014, followed by an animated recreation in 2021.

Tim Bentinck recreated the role of Professor Travers for Big Finish's The New Counter-Measures audio story Time of the Intelligence.
