The institute aimed to "cure" prisoners of their criminal ways by removing all of the prisoner's negative emotions and depositing them into another body, known as a Sin-Eater. Remand Station Mackay-One was a prison.

On the 23rd century, the Judoon took the Ninth Doctor to be incarcerated on Remand Station Mackay-One for the murder of Tara Mishra. (COMIC: Slaver's Song) He was later transferred to the Hesguard Institute in the 53rd century. (COMIC: Sin-Eaters)
