Private Manny Simons was a British Army soldier in World War I. He was fighting alongside Jamie Colquhoun through most of the war, from Mons in August 1914 till the Big Push in the Somme in July 1916.

Manny's father and mother fled religious persecution in Russia and ended up in the Gorbals. Manny was a talented boxer and even thought of turning pro. He played jazz on a trumpet. Before the war, he was dreaming of living in New York City and was saving up to book passage.

In July 1916, while in the town of St Michel in France, he was assigned to the field hospital of Chaplain Thomas Monaghan and guarded the Tenth Doctor and Gabby Gonzalez while the Doctor was being treated. Later, Monaghan sent him to accompany Gabby to the basement. There, a Weeping Angel ambushed them from the dark corner and sent Manny to New York in 1892. He then rescued a woman from a mugging and later married her. He died from a heart attack in 1916 after reading a newspaper stating that the battle of the Somme had begun.
