Death to the Doctor! was a Doctor Who Magazine comic story written by Jonathan Morris and published in December 2007.

Summary
Although released during a run of stories featuring the contemporary TARDIS team of the Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones, the pair only appear on the final page. Much of this story focuses on defeated foes of the Doctor's first nine incarnations plotting to defeat him together, while later turning on one another when the accidental electrocution of Kraarn leads the other six to incorrectly believe the Doctor is among them. Various incarnations and companions of the Doctor, including DWM companions Izzy Sinclair and Frobisher, also appear in flashbacks.
A number of enemies unite to defeat the Doctor.

Plot
Summary
On a research base in deep space, a number of enemies have united because they were all defeated by The Doctor. A new member, called Valis, arrives to join then, and is welcomed by Kraarn of the Kraagaaron. In the meeting, a number of the aliens talk about how they were defeated by various incarnations of the Doctor.
Enemies unite to defeat the Doctor.

Valis reveals that he was defeated by the Doctor's eighth incarnation, who stopped him using the crystal of consciousness. Bolog, a toad-like creature, tells of how he was defeated by the Doctor's fourth incarnation, who sent his fleet of ships into the sun using a banana. The piscine Zargath, recounts how the Doctor had defeated him by making it rain with his sonic screwdriver after he tried to invade Powell Estate.

On Research Base Truro, which is under strict quarantine due to an outbreak of Galactic plague,
High Arbiter of the Darkness Valis is greeted by Kraarn of the Kraagaaron. The pair join a conference group made up of other aliens who have come together to speak of how they were defeated by the various incarnations of the Doctor. As the latest member, Valis was given the opportunity to retell his story first and he revealed how a fortnight ago he had appropriated the Crystal of Consciousness and, with the Eighth Doctor and Izzy Sinclair at his mercy, planned to place the crystal within his psychic web. However, the Doctor had managed to switch the crystal with a piece of perspex which overloaded Valis' machine.

An alien wearing a metal helmet reveals that he has been defeated by several Doctors, including the sixth, and comments on his poor choice of clothes. Kraarn comes up with an idea - they must unite to defeat the Doctor. He starts showing sides, but is blown up. The other villains wonder what caused it, and Valis comes up with the only explanation: the Doctor must be in the base.
Bolog, a toad-like creature, and the piscine Zargath are next to recount their defeats. Bolog explains how he was defeated by the Fourth Doctor who sent the whole Reptilios Invasion Fleet into the sun using a banana, while Zargath tells that the Ninth Doctor managed to defeat his takeover of the Powell Estate by using his sonic screwdriver to make it rain as the Zargath race are allergic to water.

The aliens then search the base for the doctor. Valis talks with one of the villains called The Mentor (who resembles The Master), and he reveals that he was defeated by The Third Doctor. In another corridor, Bolog asks Questor, an old humanoid, how he was defeated, and he tells him of how the First Doctor defeated him in the Jungle of Tropicalus. The other two aliens reach the room with a Metabolic Interfermometer, which shows only 6 people in the base. As there are only six aliens, this can only mean that The Doctor is one of them. Not long after, a shot is heard - but it is revealed that Bolog killed Questor because he thought that Questor was the Doctor in disguise.
Plink, an alien wearing a metal helmet, reveals that he has been defeated by several Doctors including the Sixth Doctor, and comments on his poor choice of clothes. Kraarn comes up with an idea: they must unite to defeat the Doctor. He starts showing slides, but is blown up. The other villains wonder what caused it and Valis comes up with the only explanation: the Doctor must be on the base.

The aliens start accusing each other of being the Doctor, and attention switches to Valis, as he is the newest member. He is shot by Zargath - but is revealed to be flammable - and Zargath is caught in the blast - but neither was The Doctor. There are now only three left, and they each accuse the other of being the doctor. Then they hear the TARDIS arriving, but too late - they all shoot at one person, killing all three of them.
The aliens then search for the Doctor. Valis talks with one of the villains, called the Mentor (who resembles the Master), and he reveals that he was defeated by the Doctor's third incarnation. In another corridor, Bolog asks Questor, an old humanoid, how he was defeated; Questor tells him how the Doctor's first incarnation defeated him in the Jungle of Tropicalus. The other two aliens reach the room with a Metabolic Interfermometer, which shows only six people in the base. As there are only six aliens, this can only mean that the Doctor is one of them. Not long after, a shot is heard — Bolog has killed Questor because he thought Questor was the Doctor in disguise.
Martha Jones comes out the TARDIS, and is shocked to see the dead aliens. The Doctor examines the station and discovers that the wire which killed Kraarn had an electrical fault. He then sees the interferometer, and discovers that they are the only ones there - leaving him to wonder what caused it. He apologises to Martha, saying that if he had got there sooner, he would have saved them.

*In the flashback, the Fourth Doctor states that "bananas are good" - a line used by the Ninth Doctor in DW: The Doctor Dances and Tenth Doctor in The Girl in the Fireplace.
* Bolog remarks that Questor looks "lo-fi".
*Izzy Sinclair and Frobisher's appearances make them the first comic strip companions to appear in the DWM strip since the revival of the TV series and the subsequent switch to TV-only companions.

Placements
Notes
*The First Doctor is shown with Steven Taylor and Dodo Chaplet, thus placing that adventure between DW: The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve and The Savages. Steven and Dodo are in the same outfits they are wearing prior to and the during DW: The Celestial Toymaker incident, possibly placing it around that time.
* Izzy Sinclair and Frobisher's appearances make them the first comic strip companions to appear in the DWM strip since the revival of the TV series and the subsequent switch to companions that debuted on TV.
*The Third Doctor is shown with Jo Grant and the Brigadier, thus placing it between DW: Terror of the Autons and The Green Death.
* During the conceptualizing of the comic, Tom Spilsbury suggested that they only use comic-original companions in the flashback (specifically, Sharon Davies for the Fourth Doctor and John and Gillian for the First Doctor), but this was eventually decided against in favour of using more recognisable TV companions. (The Widow's Curse)
*The Fourth Doctor is shown with Romana I and K-9 (which must therefore be K-9 Mark II). Since Romana is wearing the same dress she wore in DW: The Ribos Operation, it may have happened during a brief break in the search for the Key to Time.
*The Sixth Doctor is shown with Frobisher, so the adventure probably takes place either between DWM: The Shape Shifter and Funhouse or BFA: The Maltese Penguin and The Holy Terror.
*The Ninth Doctor is shown with Rose Tyler, so a likely placement is between DW: World War Three and Boom Town.
*For the Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones, it must be between DW: 42 and Utopia.

Death to the Doctor! was a Doctor Who Magazine comic story written by Jonathan Morris and published in December 2007.

Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

Enemies unite to defeat the Doctor.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

Kraarn, Valis, Bolog, Zargath, Questor, Plink, The Mentor attend a meeting to discuss the Doctor.

On Research Base Truro, which is under strict quarantine due to an outbreak of Galactic plague, High Arbiter of the Darkness Valis is greeted by Kraarn of the Kraagaaron.

The aliens accuse each other of being the Doctor, and attention switches to Valis, the newest member. He is shot by Zargath, but is revealed to be flammable, and Zargath is caught in the blast — but neither was the Doctor. There are now only three left, and each accuses the others of being the Doctor. They then hear the TARDIS arriving, but too late — they all shoot, killing each other.

Martha Jones comes out of the TARDIS, and is shocked to see the dead aliens. The Doctor examines the station and discovers that the wire which killed Kraarn had an electrical fault. He sees the Interferometre, and discovers that they are the only ones there — leaving him to wonder what caused it. He apologises to Martha, saying that if he had got there sooner, he would have saved them.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

 • Izzy Sinclair and Frobisher's appearances make them the first comic strip companions to appear in the DWM strip since the revival of the TV series and the subsequent switch to companions that debuted on TV.
 • During the conceptualizing of the comic, Tom Spilsbury suggested that they only use comic-original companions in the flashback (specifically, Sharon Davies for the Fourth Doctor and John and Gillian for the First Doctor), but this was eventually decided against in favour of using more recognisable TV companions.
