Josh was a Killingworth miner. He lived with his wife, their baby and an old woman in the 19th century.

After the Rani extracted chemicals from his brain, she made Josh, along with Tom, her assistant. She later killed Josh after she and the Tremas Master struck a deal and abandoned the base at the bath house. His body was discovered by the Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown. (TV: The Mark of the Rani)
