A newsreader announced the newly discovered body of James O'Meara, supposedly killed at the hands of Lenny Kruger in May 1966. He reported that James was subsequently replaced by a lookalike, who had pretended to be him thereafter. He interviewed the other Common Men, who maintained that they knew of the swap, but thought that the real James had simply undergone a mental breakdown.
Unknown to him and the public, the Fifth Doctor had gotten the band members to lie about this, and faked the whole thing. James was actually fine and well; he just needed to create bad press to defeat Lenny Kruger. (AUDIO: 1963: Fanfare for the Common Men)
