Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

There has been a Doctor Who fan group in Derby certainly since the early 1980's, when they used to meet up to watch videos and discuss the programme. At that time they met at Nunsfield House in Alvaston, Derby. The Whoovers, the present group, were created in 1999 and meet every first Friday of the month at 19.30 at the QUAD, Market Place, Cathedral Quarter, Derby DE1 3AS.[source needed]

They regularly have invited special guests from the classic and current series and since 2008 have organised the annual Whooverville convention. Whooverville is the East Midlands’ biggest annual get-together of Doctor Who fans, and is indeed one of the most popular fan groups in the UK.[source needed]

Whooverville is a day of fun for all ages, with a chance to have your photo taken with the TARDIS, catch up on gossip from the latest series, purchase new and classic merchandise, take part in a Doctor Who pod-cast, add to the autograph album and meet some of the people from in front of and behind the camera.[source needed]
