This version of Vastra and her fellow companions are parody versions of the characters from Scooby Doo, with Vastra taking on the role of Daphne Blake.
Her wife Jenny taking on the role of Fred Jones may be a reference to the fact that Fred and Daphne are often depicted in Scooby-Doo media as being romantically involved.
