Anna, wanting a life of adventure, pretended to be a boy and used the name Archie to get a job aboard the Isabella. She did not believe that her mother and father cared.

Anna was the first to spot what appeared to be the Flying Dutchman, seeing it from the crow's nest. Later, she met the Seventh Doctor, Ace and Thomas Hector Schofield, helping them escape when they were locked up by Captain Alexander Marfleet. She helped the trio expose the Flying Dutchman as a sham by Unsworth, who had the Henrietta disguised as the ghost ship.

Afterwards, thanks to encouragement from Ace, Anna revealed her true identity to her crew-mates. Captain Marfleet demoted Unsworth and made her his new chief mate. (AUDIO: The Flying Dutchman)
