Kate regularly pottered around the office with large cards, and collected presents for leaving-dos, birthdays, weddings, births and Secret Santa. She had a natural ability to succeed at work without either intelligence or effort. Her voice came across to Emma as a "constant tone of mildly resentful surprise".
