History[[edit] | [edit source]]

21st century[[edit] | [edit source]]

Around the 2000s, the UP oversaw diplomatic relations for much of the universe. They sometimes gave aid to invaded worlds, and took a dim view of the Canisians' warmongering under First General Tannis. (WC: "At the Temple of the Fourth" [+]Part of Death Comes to Time, Loading...{"namedep":"At the Temple of the Fourth","1":"Death Comes to Time (webcast)"}, "No Child of Earth" [+]Part of Death Comes to Time, Loading...{"namedep":"No Child of Earth","1":"Death Comes to Time (webcast)"}) However, they were unable to keep track of all inhabited planets, with the UP failing to "notice" when Tannis attempted to depopulate a "small, obstinate plant-infested world in Alnilam" by sending a plague down to wipe out its roughly two hundred million inhabitants. (WC: "No Child of Earth" [+]Part of Death Comes to Time, Loading...{"namedep":"No Child of Earth","1":"Death Comes to Time (webcast)"}) At that time, Earth had no official contacts; according to the vampire mercenary Nessican, "because it [was] so remote, [Earth] ha[d] no contact with other worlds and therefore no planetary defences", which was why he recommended that Tannis try to invade it. Some time before the attempted invasion of Earth, Tannis agreed to the treaty of Carselai under the auspices of the UP, seemingly to "placate" the organisation, (WC: "No Child of Earth" [+]Part of Death Comes to Time, Loading...{"namedep":"No Child of Earth","1":"Death Comes to Time (webcast)"}) although the negotiations still involved making concessions to the Canisians which the Minister of Chance found unacceptable. Later history[[edit] | [edit source]]

At later points in history, humans, now a spacefaring species, were members of the United Planets. Indeed, at one stage, the group's president was Cal Tarrant. (PROSE: The Doomsday Machine [+]Loading...["The Doomsday Machine (short story)"]) The Anti-Dalek Force, a group which tried to fight the Daleks in "all galaxies" (PROSE: The New Dalek Paradigm [+]Loading...["The New Dalek Paradigm (short story)"]) headquartered on Earth, (COMIC: Island of Horror [+]Loading...["Island of Horror (comic story)"]) were then under President Tarrant's direct control, as evidenced by an extant communiqué from Space Major Joel Shaw which requested orders from Tarrant. (PROSE: Special Report [+]Loading...["Special Report (short story)"]) The President ruled as head of a United Planets Parliament. Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

The United Planets was a regular feature of the latter group of Dalek annuals, and were often seen to be giving orders to either Reb Shavron, Mark Seven or Joel Shaw, the three most regular characters of those annuals.
