Sabjatrik, called "the tyrant", was a Time Lord criminal. According to Skagra, Sabjatrik and his brother Rungar together "dragged Gallifrey into a Second Dark Age". They were members of one of the older Prydonian families, but according to legend they drowned their own mother in a leaky SIDRAT. They usurped the powers of the Lord President to wage a civil war on Gallifrey. They were overthrown and imprisoned in Shada. (PROSE: Shada)

When Skagra visited Shada in hopes of freeing the renegade Time Lord Salyavin, he accessed the prison index and passed over Rungar and Sabjatrik before he found Salyavin. (WC: Shada, AUDIO: Shada) According to one account, Rungar, Sabjatrik and Scintilla were among the "Ancient Outlaws" whom Skagra released and trapped in his "Universal Mind". After Skagra's defeat, the Doctor returned Sabjatric and the other prisoners to Shada. (PROSE: Shada)

Sabjatrik was tall, with a high domed forehead, a long sallow face, and a beaked nose. (PROSE: Shada)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

In most versions of Shada, Sabjatrik is only a name on a prison file. It is not even clear that he is a Time Lord. However, in his novelisation of Shada, Gareth Roberts created an elaborate backstory for Sabjatrik (though he spells the name "Subjatric"). The spelling "Sabjatrik" is preferred on this wiki because it was used in the webcast version of Shada, which was broadcast by the BBC. See here for more details.
