A bug bomb was a type of explosive that could burrow into the skin. It could be planted through a brief touch, without being noticed by the chosen target. The explosion produced by a bug bomb was large enough not only to kill its carrier, but to damage the surrounding environment. The bomb could lie dormant for some time before being remotely activated by its controller; however, a bug bomb could only be activated when its host was conscious. When an activated bug bomb was cut out of its host, it buzzed like a winged insect.

Inquisitor Darkel planted a bug bomb in Narvin's shoulder, but Leela was able to remove it with her blade before it detonated. Darkel also planted a bug bomb in her ally, Commander Janartis, but Captain Annos knocked him unconscious with a staser and the bomb was rendered ineffective. (AUDIO: Warfare)
