The Mark Nine avatar, or formally Kabasta Systems Series Nine avatar, was a hyper-lifelike android type developed by Kabasta Systems by 3909. They were extremely lifelike, including human sensory inputs and simulated ageing. The only tells were an immunity to burns and a slight weakness to water.
Nature[[edit] | [edit source]]
Mark Nine avatars were expensive commodities, sought after by many artificial intelligences. However, they could always be used as part of the illegal fleshing process, where an imprint of a deceased human's mind would be transferred into a positronic brain and then placed inside a Mark Nine avatar with a series of mental blocks to prevent them even noticing they were no longer in their original organic body. History[[edit] | [edit source]]
In or shortly before 3909, Caldin Corrigan hired the clockwork android Christian with a promise of transferring his consciousness into a Mark Nine avatar. He was unable to keep this promise, however, because he had used all his plaudits to secure a fleshing for his daughter Emily. The duplicate Emily had very mixed feelings about her existence after she learned her true nature, but did wear the Mark Nine avatar in Emily Corrigan's likeness to Corrigan's funeral as a sign of respect, although she thought she might get another one with a wholly original appearance later. By then, Christian had also acquired a Mark Nine avatar, customising its appearance to resemble a form he'd earlier adopted while in the virtual world of the Cybernet. (PROSE: Cybergeddon)
