Cybernet

The Cybernet was a digital network and virtual reality uniting all Cyberons and Cyberon technology, created by twin artificial intelligences, one more logical and one more emotional and creative, towards the end of the Cyberon War. It had a rudimentary artificial intelligence of its own, distinct from the true Cyberon hive mind.

The Cybernet became inactive after the Cyberons' defeat, which saw the two artificial intelligences at its heart being looted by humans who sold them as reusable positronic brains with no awareness of their true significance. However, a version of it survived alongside the pocket of surviving Cyberons hidden inside Asteroid GX-923, protected by anti-virus datavores. When the two artificial intelligences, now called Emily and Christian, found their way back to Asteroid GX-923 by chance, they reentered the Cybernet to destroy it, now intent on protecting the universe from the Cyberons. They succeeded with the help of Duncan, a partially cyber-converted human who managed to use his link to the Cybernet to project his consciousness out of his body and into the virtual net. They then downloaded themselves back into their robot bodies while Duncan bought them time to escape, now being able to bend the Cybernet to his whim. As they fled in an escape pod, Duncan allowed his consciousness to dissipate, along with most of the Cybernet's functionality. A small, conscious fragment of the Cybernet endured, but knew that it would never be able to bring back the Cyberons unless it was reunited with Emily and Christian. It found it within itself, somehow, to be happy that its two creators were free. (PROSE: Cybergeddon)
