Jimmy Stone was an ex-boyfriend and ex-fiancé of Rose Tyler when she was either fifteen or sixteen. Rose left her family and education, seeking a life with Jimmy before until they eventually broke up, resulting in Rose resenting him for years to come. He would serve a prison sentence and was brutally killed by Autons during their attack on 5 March 2005.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jimmy was born circa 1982. He gained a reputation in the Powell Estate for being the "Fittest Boy" by his teen years, and he played the bass guitar in the band No Hot Ashes. (PROSE: Meet Rose [+]Loading...{"page":"38-39","name":"Meet","1":"Meet Rose (short story)"})

When Jimmy was twenty, in September 2002, he met Rose Tyler, who was either fifteen (born on 27 April 1987) (PROSE: Meet Rose [+]Loading...{"page":"38-39","name":"Meet","1":"Meet Rose (short story)"}) or sixteen (born in early 1986). (PROSE: Rose [+]Loading...["Rose (novelisation)"]) Rose fell "head over heels" in love with him.

Rose dumped her current boyfriend, Mickey Smith, and dropped out of school and her A levels, and moved into a bedsit with Jimmy. (PROSE: Meet Rose [+]Loading...{"page":"38-39","name":"Meet","1":"Meet Rose (short story)"}) He was seemingly engaged to Rose at one point. (PROSE: Only Human [+]Loading...{"name":"Human","page":"99","chaptnum":"Eight","1":"Only Human (novel)"}) After five months — February 2003 — their relationship broke apart, Rose returned home, heartbroken, and £800 in debt. Meanwhile, Jimmy had travelled to Amsterdam with a woman named Noosh in a camper van. (PROSE: Meet Rose [+]Loading...{"page":"38-39","name":"Meet","1":"Meet Rose (short story)"})

According to another account, they broke up after being together for a year, sometime in late 2003. When he left, Rose told him that "he'd come to no good one day", as he stole her secondhand computer which he stashed inside his car. (PROSE: Rose [+]Loading...["Rose (novelisation)"])

Fate[[edit] | [edit source]]

Rose later mentioned Jimmy Stone when discussing with Mickey (who was actually an Auton duplicate), mentioning that it was his fault she didn't do her A levels. She also seemed to know that Stone had ended up in a bad place. (TV: Rose [+]Loading...["Rose (TV story)"])

Jimmy would serve eighteen months in prison, and when he got out,[nb 1] all he could do was sell brushes from door to door. (PROSE: Meet Rose [+]Loading...{"page":"38-39","name":"Meet","1":"Meet Rose (short story)"}) On 5 March 2005, Jimmy was robbing his current girlfriend, Abena, during the Auton invasion, when he was killed by a group of Autons, who chopped him up into little pieces as he left Abena's house. (PROSE: Rose [+]Loading...["Rose (novelisation)"])

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 26,185 BC, whilst attempting to ingratiate herself with a tribe of Neanderthals, Rose told an old woman and Gual that she had once been engaged; at the old woman's suggestion, Rose hoped that he had been eaten by something. (PROSE: Only Human [+]Loading...{"name":"Human","page":"99","chaptnum":"Eight","1":"Only Human (novel)"})

Other realities[[edit] | [edit source]]

In a parallel universe, Jimmy had a son with Rosie Tyler, whom she also named Jimmy. Jimmy Stone from that universe died before meeting his son. (AUDIO: The Rogue Planet [+]Loading...["The Rogue Planet (audio story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Surname[[edit] | [edit source]]

Whilst Billie Piper clearly says "Stones's" in Rose [+]Loading...["Rose (TV story)"], both the script included in The Shooting Scripts and the broadcast and series one DVD subtitles, show Jimmy's surname to be "Stone". From this, it seems Piper's pronunciation was a blooper.

Footnotes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  1. Provided that he served his full sentence, he would've been let out from anywhere between September 2004 to February 2005, depending when in the six months after he broke up with Rose he was imprisoned.
