The Mysterious Ticking Noise was a clip on a videotape that Ross Lee found in the BBC Television Centre rubbish tip. It involved the Potter Puppet Pals, hand puppet versions of Harry Potter characters, chanting in tune to an enigmatic ticking sound that turned out to be coming from a pipe bomb, that immediately blew them to smithereens. The Mysterious Ticking Noise is an episode of the Potter Puppet Pals web series that was originally posted to YouTube on 23 March 2007. The Chute! broadcast was the first time the segment was broadcast on television. Neil Cicierega was credited as contributing the segment.

The Chute! version of the clip ends at the pipe bomb's detonation, omitting an appearance from a hand puppet Voldemort.
