It was rumoured that Scrooge was not his true name, but the only alternative which had been found was Aristide Twain, which was deemed "preposterous". It was also rumoured, by the "circle of the innermost Archons", that Scrooge was in fact a metafictional agent of the Adversary; not here yesterday and, if they were lucky, not to be here tomorrow. In the real world, Aristide Twain was the co-creator of The Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids.
