The Third Doctor met [[K'anpo]] as the abbot of a Buddhist meditation centre in [[England]] with his assistant [[Cho-Je]]. Unbeknownst to the Doctor and his companion at the time, [[Sarah Jane Smith]], Cho-Je and K'anpo were one and the same. Cho-Je only existed either as a future projection of K'anpo Rimpoche or a creation of his mind, which K'anpo used as a proxy while he hid from the [[Eight Legs]]. This did not deter the Eight Legs for long.

The K'anpo Rimpoche had several abilities not seen in other Time Lords. K'anpo was able to create a "mental projection" of his mind that was able to move and talk independently. When K'anpo was injured, he regenerated into this projection, Cho-Je. He was also capable of teleporting himself and others from one place to another.
As a youth, [[First Doctor|the Doctor]] knew K'anpo Rimpoche as the Hermit, a wise Time Lord who lived on the side of a mountain behind the house where the Doctor lived as a young boy ([[DW]]: ''[[The Time Monster]]''), near the [[Prydonian Academy]] where he studied at the time ([[NA]]: ''[[Timewyrm: Revelation]]''). The Hermit used to tell stories to the young [[Gallifreyan]]s, like the Doctor, on [[Mount Cadon]]. The Hermit would tell ghost stories about [[The Fendahl|the Fendahl]], [[Great Vampire]]s, the Legions of the Sphinx and the [[Grandfather Paradox]] to the Doctor when he met him, the stories about Great Vampires and the Legion of the Sphinx would excite the Doctor, however, the stories of the Fendahl and the [[Grandfather Paradox]] would terrify him and give him nightmares. He'd also tell stories about [[Omega]], [[Salyavin]]. These [[Time Lord]]s would be the Doctors heroes.
