Even if their is a race called "the silents," which I am still not convinced of, than "silence will fall" still means that "silence" will fall. It just means that when "the silents" come, silence will fall.[[User:Gowron8472|Gowron8472]] 23:35, December 29, 2010 (UTC)

* Hm, maybe this section should be paged? There are speculations from two years ago here which, though they were good for their time, have been proven to be partially or fully false since. I think they should be kept for history's sake and to respect those who took their time to contribute them, but maybe on another page so that new visitors won't get confused or have to sort through discussions here. SPOILERS

Why are we all so sure that they're saying "Silence will fall"? Why not "Silents"? Rosanna Calvierri said that the Saturnynians ran from them. The Saturnynians saw them and the end of all things through the cracks.

It's the sort of twist I'd expect from Steven Moffat (to play with spelling and pronunciation like that). And it makes some sense in my mind, too. Those who are silent are those who do not stand up for themselves. If one does not stand up for himself, who will stand up for him? How bad would it be to remain silent against some massive evil? The Silents will fall, but those who fight will remain. It's along the same lines as "Give us the Son and Heir" that we heard in SJA: The Empty Planet.

I think it could work out like this. Now, you tell me why or why not. Memcginn 16:32, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

The Saturnyians saw silence, not silents. It is pretty much confirmed at the end of Vampires in Venice, when silence literally falls. The idea seems to be that at "the end of all things," there will no longer be any things to make noise, so there will be silence. So far, there hasn't been any indication that there is anything called a Silent. And, Moffat didn't write the Empty Planet, and he hasn't really done that kind of play on words in his past stories.Icecreamdif 01:44, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

The clue is in the quote and it happens at the end of The Vampires of Venice - all sound turns to eerie silence without explanation. This whole Silents thing comes from the fact that there will be a character called The Silent in the opening two-parter of series 6. It is probably one of them. The new enemy in the same story, which could be The Silent for all we know, plays a huge part in the arc and harks back to series 5. Delton Menace 16:57, November 25, 2010 (UTC)

The fact that all sound turned into an eerie silence without explanation proves that they mean "silence," not "silents."Icecreamdif 18:47, November 28, 2010 (UTC)

I bet you guys feel dumb now. The 'Silence' has actually been confirmed to be 'Silents' and they're a race of aliens or monsters of some sort out to get the Doctor.

Dumb? For thinking? I hope they don't! Anyway, "Silence" is an order, not a race. A Silent is one of these alien creatures, it is unknown how and why those of that order look like that (or even if there's a 100% correlation between belonging to that order and looking like that, though it's implied. Ms. Kovarian, for example, works for the Silence but isn't a Silent. AilaG talk to me 00:58, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Even if their is a race called "the silents," which I am still not convinced of, than "silence will fall" still means that "silence" will fall. It just means that when "the silents" come, silence will fall.Gowron8472 23:35, December 29, 2010 (UTC)

According to Prisioner Zero, "The Pandorica will open, and silence will fall." The explanation is clear: the Pandorica opened, the Doctor was placed within it, and silence fell when the Doctor was thus unable to stop the TARDIS from exploding." All that was needed was the context. Problem solved. --Bold Clone 00:09, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Turn on the subtitles or read an interview. It's "silence".----Skittles the hog--Talk 19:17, April 12, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I always figured it to mean "silence" at the time as well. Oh well, we'll just have to see exactly how things play out in regards to this Silent character. EJA 09:26, April 13, 2011 (UTC)

Then again, as The Silence is said to be a species or group/organisation, it's possible there may be a war against them (eg: A Good Man Goes To War, episode 7.) Their side will lose and (The) Silence will fall. Gallifrey102 20:22, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

But what does that have to do with the Pandorica being opened, as Prisoner Zero said? --Bold Clone 21:15, April 14, 2011 (UTC)
Well with Moffat's mind... It's going to tie in. With all due respect to the others, I now full heartedly believe it the "Silents will fall" speculation... Though here's a thought:
Maybe when the TARDIS was exploding. The Silents, because they were the ones controling the TARDIS explosion, weren't wiped out of existence. So when Prisoner Zero said "The Pandorica will open, and silents (or silence) will fall", he probably meant that... Just a thought though. TheTARDIScontroller 04:26, April 15, 2011 (UTC)
Well, there's only really one way to sort this out. To ask Mr. Moffat himself. Which I've done. On Twitter, I've said "@steven_moffat Is it 'silence' or 'silents' who will fall? Me and The Howling forum are having a debate."
Whether he will reply is of equal debate.
  • [I've seen the first episodes of Series 6, and it is indeed referring to an alien race called "The Silents" who "will fall".
Here's a quick update: According to the most recent issue of Radio Times, the actor wearing the costume has been listed as 'The Silent', so I highly this theory.
Gallifrey102 21:24, April 19, 2011 (UTC)

This seems like the kind of play on words that Moffet would do. Even though "silence" fell, there is a race called "silents." I think it could be refering to both. When the "silents" fall, "silence" follows... Good thought, Memcginn! Rest In Peace Sarah Jane \ Talk to me! 14:11, April 20, 2011 (UTC)

I knew it!
