Began working as a graphic designer in 1974, firstly in Esher, Surrey, then in Herford, Herts. 'Became a freelance illustrator in 1976, working initially with Felix Dennis (Oz) on editorial projects; Kung Fu Monthly and Sci-Fi Monthly. 'Designed and illustrated record sleeves; Thrillington, Wings Over America (Paul McCartney), then joined the ranks of design group Hipgnosis (Storm Thorgeson, Aubrey Powell and Pete Christopherson), alongside other notable artists and photographers; Colin Elgie, Humphrey Ocean and Jill Furmanovsky. In the late 1970's this prolific artist produced countless record sleeves, magazine and book covers; (Elvis Costello, Ted Nugent, Whitesnake, Radio Times, Time Out, Penguin Books and Collins...), including a series of Doctor Who book covers for Target Books (between 1996-1988).

The 1980's consisted of mostly corporate and advertising work, with a return to record sleeve design in the 1990's; predominately with the band, SilverSun. The 1990's also reunited Cummins with Doctor Who, with a further series of book jackets, this time for Virgin Publishing.
Other notable projects followed; Faith (shoes) logo design, 'Buddy Holly at 60' portrait (MPL) and the posthumous portrait of Linda McCartney for Linda McCartney Foods. ("Linda had a nack for making you feel really special, part of the family").
Cummins continues to work and play (guitar and five-a-side football, yes, really!!!), from his Herfordshire base and can be found at; www.jeffcummins.com
