Alexander McLaren was the son of Colin McLaren and the brother of Kirsty McLaren. On 16 April 1746, his family and Jamie McCrimmon fled the Battle of Culloden together and took refuge in an abandoned cottage, where they soon met the Second Doctor, Ben Jackson and Polly Wright.

When Redcoats discovered them, Alexander tried to draw them off but was shot and killed by the soldiers. (TV: The Highlanders)
