The Ood Sphere was the ice-covered planet and homeworld of the Ood, located in the Mutter's Spiral galaxy.

Astronomical data[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Ood Sphere was a moon of a ringed planet, located in the same star system as the Sense Sphere, (home of the Sensorites), located in the Horsehead Nebula. (TV: Planet of the Ood [+]Loading...["Planet of the Ood (TV story)"]) It was covered in mountains and high cliffs, had snow and permanent buildings made of ice. (TV: Planet of the Ood [+]Loading...["Planet of the Ood (TV story)"], The End of Time [+]Loading...["The End of Time (TV story)"])

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Ood evolved and survived on the snowy moon in peace until the Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire arrived in the 39th century and enslaved them. The Ood were kept in Ood Operations on the moon, including the Ood Brain, which was found underneath the Northern Glacier of the moon. In 4126, after a rebellion and the intervention of the Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble and the Friends of the Ood, the Ood were freed and left to roam the moon, in peace once more. (TV: Planet of the Ood [+]Loading...["Planet of the Ood (TV story)"])

It only took the Ood a hundred years for them to establish fully a new Ood civilisation, with huge ice cities and a ruling council; returning to the level of civilisation in the 21st century of long before its contact with humanity. Alarmed, the Tenth Doctor realised something was causing them to advance so quickly. (TV: The End of Time [+]Loading...["The End of Time (TV story)"])

The Eleventh Doctor visited the Ood Sphere to return fifteen Ood who had been unable to hear the song calling them home, (COMIC: Time of the Ood [+]Loading...["Time of the Ood (comic story)"]) one of which had settled down with Rory Williams and Amy Pond to serve them. (TV: Pond Life [+]Loading...["Pond Life (webcast)"])

6 November of an unknown year marked Ood Sphere Independence Day. (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary [+]Loading...["Time Traveller's Diary (novel)"])

Undated events[[edit] | [edit source]]

During the Last Great Time War, when Susan and Veklin visited the Sense Sphere, the Sensorite First Elder was involved in trade talks on the Ood Sphere. (AUDIO: Sphere of Influence [+]Loading...["Sphere of Influence (audio story)"])

River Song wrote an archaeological paper on Concomitant Development on the Ood Sphere and the Sense Sphere. (PROSE: The Ruby's Curse [+]Loading...["The Ruby's Curse (novel)"])

Sutekh's attack on the galaxy through planted operatives from The Doctor's TARDIS affected the Ood Sphere, with it's surface destroyed by sand and the Fifteenth Doctor presuming its population killed. When Sutekh was killed and the related deaths undone, The Doctor remarked "welcome back, the Ood!", implying that the planet was once more populated and safe. (TV: Empire of Death [+]Loading...["Empire of Death (TV story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

While the Ood Sphere is noted to be a moon, its appearance in the episode TV: Planet of the Ood [+]Loading...["Planet of the Ood (TV story)"] suggests that it might be simultaneously a moon and a planet in its own right.
