One night, while Jonah was walking home from [[football]] practice, he was transported by the Rift to a burning [[planet (Adrift)|planet]] in a [[solar system (Adrift)|solar system]] about to be destroyed. Sustaining severe burns, he was pulled out of the flames by a [[man (Adrift)|man]] who took him to a [[rescue craft]]. At some point afterwards, Jonah looked into the heart of a [[dark star]], which drove him mad and caused him to scream continuously for twenty hours every day.
The rift took Jonah to a "burning planet" in a solar system about to be destroyed. He was rescued, but was was stuck for forty years before he was returned by the rift to Earth. During that time he had stared into the heart of a [[Dark Star]] and what he had seen had driven him mad, resulting in him screaming continuously for twenty hours each day.


On Earth he had been missing for seven months when [[Gwen Cooper|Gwen]] started to investigate after seeing footage of [[Jack Harkness]] travelling to where Jonah disappeared.
After forty years, the Rift returned Jonah to [[Earth]], where he was kept and cared at a [[Torchwood]] facility on [[Flat Holm]]. [[Gwen Cooper]] tracked Jonah down and visited him, and afterwards told Jonah's mother [[Nikki Bevan|Nikki]] and took her to him.
