The Midnight entity is some sort of extraterrestial lifeform of unknown origins native to the plasnet Midnight.
When the Crusader Tour shuttle breaks down on Midnight, the mechanic notices a strange thing like a shadow of somesort, which he claimed to see it running.

During the Crusader Tour to the Sapphire Waterfall, a strange monster attacked the tour bus. The monster knocked on the Shuttle and then somehow made it inside the shuttle, without any sign of a hole in the vehicle. The entity possessed Sky Silvestry. Behind the Scenes
This is the first time on Doctor Who where an enemy has never been revealed. The name of the creature is not revealed in the episode, and "Midnight entity" is just its unofficial name. However, judging by the way the entity acts at the start, and the theme throughout the series, we could call it a 'shadow', one that turns its enemies into shadows themselves.
- The entity seems almost identical to the species in the Doctor Who Unbound audio A Storm of Angels, right down to the gemstone planet it inhabited.
