Empathetic psychics, or empaths, were psychics who were able to sense emotion.

They were, according to the Eleventh Doctor, the most compassionate people you will ever meet, as well as the loneliest — "they've been exposing themselves to all those hidden feelings, all that guilt, pain and sorrow." Emma Grayling, one such empathetic psychic, described that she sensed feelings "the way a telepath can sense thoughts." (TV: Hide)

Innately empathic species include the Isolus (TV: Fear Her), the Ood (TV: The Impossible Planet) and the Toys (PROSE: Bad Therapy).
