Derek John Newark (8th June 1933, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England - 11th August 1998), played Za in "An Unearthly Child" and Greg Sutton in "Inferno." Outside Doctor Who, Newark is perhaps best known for his role as Spooner in the popular sitcom Rising Damp.

Early in his career, Derek Newark was a member of the Belgrade Theatre Company, whose members included Ian McKellan. Over the years, he appeared in episodes of the television series Dixon of Dock Green, Dad's Army, The Avengers, Rumpole of the Bailey, and Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em.
