On 18 October, the following important behind-the-scenes events were known to have occurred:
- 1963 - Studio filming for the very first Doctor Who episode took place at Lime Grove Studio D.
- 1963 - J.N. Shearme sent Christopher Barry a tape containing two examples of synthetic speech, for use as inspiration for the voice of the Daleks. The first was produced by vocoder, and the second was computer-generated. The BBC decided by 25 October to do neither, as at least some of it would have to be done live in their studios.
