On 31 July, the following important behind-the-scenes events were known to have occurred:
- 1963 - The cast of the new science fiction series Doctor Who was revealed: William Hartnell, Carole Ann Ford, Jacqueline Hill and William Russell.[1][2]
- 1963 - Script editor David Whitaker commissioned Terry Nation to write The Mutants (later known as The Daleks).[3]
