Betelgeuse was a planet mentioned by the Fourth Doctor. When Davros revived and demanded to know what had happened while he was in suspended animation, the Doctor told him that Arcturus had won the Galactic Olympic Games with Betelgeuse coming in second. (TV: Destiny of the Daleks)

According to the Fourth Doctor, the official papal seat of the Catholic Church was situated in the Betelgeuse system by 3278. (PROSE: Managra)

The Terpsivores, a centipede-like race, came from Betelgeuse. (COMIC: Death Disco)

According to Ian Chesterton, it was a name of a star visible from Earth. (PROSE: Byzantium!)

Behind the scenes

Betelgeuse was also a planet in script editor Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. In the real world, its name belongs to a star.
