Boris Karloff played Frankenstein's monster in the 1931 Frankenstein film, a clip from which featured in the Doctor Who TV movie.

Karloff was born on 23 November 1887, exactly 76 years before the air date of An Unearthly Child.

Karloff was at one point considered for the part of Dr. Who in the planned 1965 radio plays, but was unavailable at the time.[source needed]
