Mr Crane was John Lumic's enforcer who had been with John Lumic "all the way".

Crane supervised the capture of homeless people and their cyber-conversion into Cybermen. (TV: Rise of the Cybermen) The Cybermen almost "upgraded" Crane as well, but he was able to pull the EarPods from his ears just as the transmission hit them, just as he returned back to Battersea Power Station in the black articulated lorry owned by International Electromatics (a cover company owned by Cybus Industries). However, Cybermen found him "unprogrammed" (not under the influence of the EarPods) and escorted him to Cyber Control (the main control room) where Lumic was. Mr Crane started talking to John Lumic; this was merely an excuse to get closer to his life support electric wheelchair. When he was close enough, Mr Crane damaged the breathing apparatus built into John Lumic's chair. John Lumic panicked "Help me!", and before Mr Crane could damage the computer monitor on John Lumic's chair, a Cyberman threw Mr Crane a couple of meters through the air and onto the floor. Before Mr Crane could fully get up to do more damage, he coldly said his final words: "Die, you!" Then a Cyberman put its gauntlet on Mr Crane's neck and killed him with its electricity discharge.

Mr Crane's demise.

Ultimately, as a result of Crane's actions, the Cybermen took Lumic away for an emergency upgrade and the Cyber-Controller was created. (TV: The Age of Steel)

Behind the scenes

  • Crane's exercise of control over people implanted with EarPods is later repeated by Mercy Hartigan. Each ordered their victims to turn right, then left.
