I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself. I take the words... I scatter them, in time and space. A message, to lead myself here.
After looking into the Heart of the TARDIS, Vortex energy (if not the Time Vortex itself) filled Rose Tyler, who then temporarily became the Bad Wolf entity.
Profile
Rose Tyler as the Bad Wolf
Newly empowered, she piloted the TARDIS back to the Doctor. A nimbus of light surrounded her and shone through her eyes. Rose's natural London accent vanished. She also possessed the destructive and creative powers of a goddess, enabling her to destroy an entire Dalek fleet and have an enormous influence over time and space.
While possessed of these gifts, the entity set out to spread the Bad Wolf meme through many worlds and times. In this way, the Doctor and Rose's past selves would eventually follow the clues that would enable them to defeat the Daleks, creating an ontological paradox in the process. Apart from the Dalek fleet, Rose also destroyed all the Daleks on Satellite Five. She also altered reality to prevent the death of Captain Jack Harkness (DW: The Parting of the Ways).
Jack would later discover he could apparently no longer die by any means, and it would take him nearly a century and a half of subjective time before he finally learned that she was responsible. (TW: Everything Changes onwards, plus DW: Utopia)
- We do not know if she also restored to life the other victims of the Daleks or restored the damage done to Earth itself by Dalek orbital bombardment.
The Doctor restored Rose's human self by absorbing the Vortex energy into his own body, a process that would prove destructive to his cellular structure and so prompt the Doctor's next regeneration. (DW: The Parting of the Ways)
Subsequent mentions
- Upon her meeting with the werewolf host, that entity noted that Rose also had "something of the wolf" in her. (DW: Tooth and Claw)
- While on the Valiant, the Master commented to the Doctor he "once had companions who could absorb the time vortex".
- It is unknown how he knew of any of those events though his possession of The Doctor's TARDIS prior to this may be responsible.
- An unknown force, presumably, the Bad Wolf entity changed all the banners and signs in the Shan Shen market place to read "BAD WOLF," which helped to warn the Doctor (DW: Turn Left). This warned the Doctor and Donna Noble of the impending danger of Davros and the Daleks. (DW: The Stolen Earth)
Behind the Scenes
- The name "Bad Wolf entity" is conjectural and was not used by any of the individuals involved. Onscreen she/it refers to herself only as "Bad Wolf".
- In The Parting of the Ways, another actress dubbed in Rose Tyler's dialogue while Billie Piper mimed the words.
