The handbrake was a device on the TARDIS used for quick stops. (TV: Doctor Who, GAME: TARDIS) At the end of one episode, the Doctor says to Martha Jones "handbrake on" right before leaving (TV: Smith and Jones) proven when River Song once claimed that the TARDIS made its "whoosh" noise because the Doctor had left the handbrake on.
