Macrinus was a robot. He wanted to help the Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller escape the cannibalists. They wanted to find the reset switch to stop the cannibalist. They sacrificed their life in order to make sure that the Doctor and Lucie could get to the reset switch. (AUDIO: The Cannibalists)
