David Savile appeared in several Doctor Who stories: as Lieutenant Jeremy Carstairs in The War Games, Winser in The Claws of Axos and Colonel Charles Crichton in The Five Doctors.

Savile's long career began in a 1965 episode of Out of the Unknown, after which he appeared on UFO, Softly, Softly: Taskforce, Bergerac, Howard's Way and The Bill. He had recurring roles as Lt. Cmdr. Beaumont on Warship, Charles Banks on Gems and Max Barker on Kinsey.

His wife is actress Lois Baxter, who appeared in The Androids of Tara.
