East Berlin was the East German half of Berlin created by the seperation of Germany following World War II. During the Cold War, a barrier known as the Berlin Wall separated East Berlin and East Germany as a whole from West Germany's West Berlin. Democratic uprisings in the Eastern Bloc countries resulted in the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989 as well as the reunification of Germany. (AUDIO: Protect and Survive)
