The Model Unit, credited in The Time of the Doctor as The Modelo Unit, provided the miniature effects for Day and Time. Supervisor Mike Tucker won a BAFTA for his work on The Day of the Doctor.[1] The Model Unit was nominated for a Craft & Design Award for their special effects in The Day of the Doctor.
Beginning in December 2015, the Model Unit is engaged in refurbished props from classic Doctor Who for the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff. Their first project was the restoration of the original Davros costume and chair.[2] In July 2016, they ran a contest on doctorwho.tv to decide which classic monsters to restore next. 8,000 voted; the winners were the Mandrels and Morbius.[3] They were unveiled in August.[1]
