Doctor Who Universe

March

April

  • The Number 200 bus travels from Earth to San Helios. The Doctor later saves everyone by getting them off the world. (DW: Planet of the Dead) This takes place after the events of DW: Journey's End, as these events are referred to by the characters. Since Journey's End appears to take place in May or June of 2009 (NDA: Beautiful Chaos) and this story is set in "April", it must be 2010 or even a later year.

Unknown dates

Other timelines

Due to time differences between the two worlds, they appear in 2007 in the other world. See also Pete's World.

Real World

NOTE: This section includes announced and surmised events in the future; dates, events, and titles are subject to change. This section may also include spoilers.
  • The 5th series of Doctor Who is scheduled for broadcast this year, consisting of 13 episodes with Steven Moffat taking over from Russell T Davies as executive producer, and Matt Smith taking over the role of the Doctor from David Tennant. Filming for the season began in July 2009, and is expected to carry over into 2010 per the precedent of previous seasons.
  • Assuming it is renewed, production of Series 6 of Doctor Who will presumably begin in the second half of 2010, for broadcast in 2011.
  • Presumably the 2009 specials will receive DVD release in a box set in early 2010, after the broadcast of David Tennant's final special. However the announcement in May 2009 that Planet of the Dead and The Next Doctor are to be released on their own both in the UK and North America has called this into question.
  • Broadcast of the first season of the spin-off series K-9 is expected to continue into 2010 in its country of production, Australia. Broadcast plans for elsewhere in the world have yet to be announced.
  • BBC America is expected to broadcast the final three David Tennant specials at some point after their UK showing, meaning likely early 2010.[1]

"Early 2010"

  • According to media reports in October 2008, the final "gap year" special episode of Doctor Who may not be broadcast until early 2010, contradicting earlier reports that they would all air in 2009. This final special, whenever it airs, will be the last under the watch of producers Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner and the last to feature David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor; it is not yet known whether the actor chosen to play the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith will appear in the special as well.
  • In March 2009 it was learned via a Russell T. Davies interview in SFX Magazine that the final three specials of the gap year would air around "Christmas/late 2009".[2] As the exact airdates have yet to be announced as of March 2009, a New Year's Day broadcast is possible for one of the specials.

March

  • The Canadian cable network Space is scheduled to take over the Canadian broadcast licence for season 1-4 and related Christmas Specials (save Voyage of the Damned) from the CBC.
  • 26 - Fifth anniversary of the return of Doctor Who to television.

April

  • The Canadian cable network Space is scheduled to take over the Canadian broadcast licence for the 2007 Christmas special Voyage of the Damned from the CBC, officially ending the CBC's association with the Doctor Who franchise.

December

  • According to an announcement made by IDW Publishing at the New York Comic Con in February 2009, the comic book series Doctor Who Ongoing is scheduled to begin publishing original adventures featuring the Eleventh Doctor as of its 18th issue, scheduled for publication this month.
