Kalem was the uncle of Mihal and the brother of Loran.
Kalem killed King Loran of Zalezna in an attempt to make himself king. His nephew Mihal and Mihal's tutor Lycon fled from Kalem into the nearby woods but were caught by Kalem's soldiers.
