Taken by the Muses was the sixteenth story in the Bernice Summerfield anthology A Life of Surprises. It was written by Steve Lyons.

Summary

Benny is in prison on the planet Lyra. She's waiting for the Muses, android priests, to take her before the Great Muse. She was arrested while leading an expedition to an ancient temple on the planet.

The important thing is to keep one's mind occupied, so Bernice writes in her diary. She makes up a story about being taken before the Great Muse and being required to speak in rhyme. She is evicted from the planet.

The story finished, she continues to wait.
