Lyra was a planet with a religion based on a book of nursery rhymes left behind by alien visitors. They used android priests, called the Muses, to enforce the strictures of the religion.
Centuries after the population died out, the Muses continued to guard the temple and perform the required rituals. When Bernice Summerfield visited the temple, she was arrested by the Muses. (PROSE: Taken by the Muses)
