The Regeneration circuit was a component of K-9's that enabled him to, (if destroyed), rebuild himself. He did this in 2050, but lost his memory as a result of th regeneration. (K9TV: Regeneration)

K-9 may have been fitted with the regeneration circuit during his time on Gallifrey; this does not appear to be a standard feature for all K-9s, such as K-9 Mark III who sacrificed himself but did not regenerate and was instead replaced
