According to its director Martin Ashcroft, Doctor Demonic's Tales of Terror was a 1976 "portmanteau film" comprised of several smaller stories. All of the constituent short films were in the horror genre. Using the alias "Dr. John Smith", the Fifth Doctor worked as the historical adviser on the first of these short films, The Devil's Whisper, a film that also starred "Nyssa Traken" as Felicity.

In 2001, the Doctor, Ashcroft, Sir Jack Merrivale and Johanna Bourke recorded a DVD commentary for the film for its 25th anniversary release. (AUDIO: Special Features)
