Abbey Marston was a small village in England. Nearby was a caravan site, a Celtic stone circle and a World War II Royal Air Force research station based in the eponymous abbey. The RAF researchers experimented with the Static during the 1940s.
The Sixth Doctor, Constance Clarke and Flip Ramon arrived at Abbey Marston in the 1980s where they learnt of the presence of the Static. (AUDIO: Static)
