The Doctor tries to convince them that life is still worth living, but eventually gives up on them in disgust and builds a raft for himself. The elderly "Worrier" accepts the Doctor's arguments and joins him on the raft. As predicted, the tides rise and the island is covered by the sea, and only the Doctor and the Worrier survive.
