Rename[[edit source]]
I've placed a rename tag on this page mostly as a reminder that it can be renamed to "Dave Stone" once the real world Dave Stone page is moved to "Dave Stone (writer)". Shambala108 ☎ 22:19, October 28, 2017 (UTC)
- You know that this page is just a in universe version of the writer btw Adric♥Nyssa∩Talk? 08:56, October 29, 2017 (UTC)
Rename: Part 2[[edit source]]
There is established wiki precedence for dabbing metafictional versions of real world actors and crew members, because the real world counterparts are considered primary topics. The list of precedents includes basically everyone in category:Alternate Earth (The Girl Who Loved Doctor Who) individuals, as well as Tom Baker (TV Action!). We have not relegated Matt Smith to "Matt Smith (actor)" and made the one-off character who is meant to be the same person the primary "Matt Smith".
While we do absolutely dab the real-world people whenever they are distinct from the in-universe character, in these cases we very consistently dab the DWU counterpart. The pages should be moved back.

- Go ahead. I was mostly through the changing of links when I discovered that the two are the same and I didn't feel like undoing most of my work. THere's a huge list at Category:Articles that need renaming and since I'm the only one taking care of it, it's easy for me to make mistakes. Shambala108 ☎ 13:34, September 3, 2019 (UTC)
Rename: Part 3[[edit source]]
Does this page require a dab? No, I personally do not believe it does. T:DAB stipulates that ""Major" real-world individuals (a category including, but not limited to, showrunners and actors who have portrayed the Doctor) are usually deemed primary topics as well. Hence, if they have an in-universe counterpart, you'll run into one of the vanishingly rare cases where the real-world topic should take precedence".
And this isn't a major show runner or actor who has portrayed the Doctor, so this should not require a dab.

- First: I think it's usually left to admins to remove rename templates from pages. I've added it back as a regular rename, but for the record, I made it a speedy rename because (as you can see above) an admin had already approved the change.
- Second: we are writing for the not we. The real-world Dave Stone has written 30+ Doctor Who universe stories across a variety of ranges, whereas the in-universe Dave Stone has a minor appearance in a single story. The idea that the majority of people who type "Dave Stone" into the search box and click the first option are looking for anyone but the writer is ludicrous. Just look at Special:WhatLinksHere/Dave Stone: of the four articles that link to this page, fully half of them are accidents and should be links to Dave Stone (writer)! If the current rules state that this page shouldn't have a dab term but its real-world equivalent should, the rules are wrong and need to be changed.
- But thankfully that isn't the case, since you're ignoring the words "but not limited to" in that quote. As SOTO clarified quite explicitly above, the rules do say that a dab term belongs on this page and not Dave Stone (writer). Hence the rename template. – n8 (☎) 20:43, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- Fair, I misread part of T:DAB. Oopsie. Though, would the real world Dave Stone actually constitute as being a "major" page, d'ya reckon? 20:50, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- A writer of 30+ stories? Yeah, I'd say so. Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 23:49, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- I'd second that. It is also of note that we find here the other primary topic variant: the Victoria type. The in-universe character is directly based on, and named after, the real world writer. (Although mostly, the writer is a primary topic because the bibliography far outweighs this character's presence in the DWU.)

Considering disambiguating in-universe versions of real world individuals associated with Doctor Who is now standard, shall this page be moved to its new name soon?
