Goronwy was a beekeeper in Wales in 1959. He used the bees to produce honey. At the Seventh Doctor's request, he sheltered Delta and Billy from the Bannermen at his home.

He later used his bees to attack the Bannermen. He gave the Doctor a jar of 1928 hibiscus blossom as a present. (TV: Delta and the Bannermen)

Behind the scenes

  • In the script, Goronwy was given the surname "Jones". (INFO: Delta and the Bannermen)
  • In DWM 485's "Ask Moffat" column, Cory Eadson enquired whether Goronwy could be a future Doctor, similar to the Curator, citing Goronwy's mysteriously alien nature, his "curious relationship to the Doctor", and the line in The Name of the Doctor where the Eleventh Doctor mentions planning to retire and take up beekeeping. Moffat replied, "That was a lovely character in Delta, and I think that's a lovely explanation." After acknowledging that he had only meant the beekeeping line as a Sherlock Holmes joke, he concluded: "Your idea is better though - quick, write it! Season 24 isn't over yet!"
